iiNet

iiNet has been delivering innovative internet services since 1993 when University friends, Michael Malone and Michael O'Reilly, established iiNet in the garage of Michael Malone's family home. iiNet became the first organisation in WA to offer dialup Internet access to the public.

Since that time, iiNet has continued to be at the forefront of the development of Internet services, pioneering flat rate services, high speed broadband and VoIP. Not just for business users, but for the average home user. These innovations have included attractive prices and ease of use for those customers looking for an trouble-free path to the joys of the Internet.

Along the way, we have picked up our share of awards and accolades. We are proud to be successfully competing with the likes of Internode, Westnet, Hutchison, unwired and others who are likewise driving the changes in the Australian telecommunications market.

iiNet has attracted employees who are passionate about the internet and the ways in which it can enrich all our lives. Those employees love to spread the word about broadband and explore with customers the doors it opens everyday.

Telstra's behaviour threatens this environment. Their public statements threaten the competitive environment by attempting to deceive policy makers and regulators.

Their negativity and procrastination robs Australians of the opportunity to develop web based applications and the potential to drive productivity gains with current technology. Telstra still artificially nobbles their investment in broadband by limiting networks capable of 24,000kbps to as low as 256kbps. They rip-off customers for up-loading data and they charge many customers by the volume of downloads.

We don't understand that negative and 'luddite' approach to new technology. We don't understand imposing limits when there's no need and we don't understand why the country's biggest Telco needs to deceive its customers and the public generally, when they have so many assets unexploited.

And finally, we don't understand why a successful company would portray its customers as dimwits or the sort to lie to their kids. You know - "To keep the rabbits out".

So, that's why we're in, we reckon the internet's the best. Our customers deserve the best and our success depends on us being the best at what we do.

We don't want anyone spoiling that with lies and mis-direction. We couldn't sit around and ignore the bulldust, we had to speak up.
