Telstra attempts to silence competitors
AUDA rejects Telstra’s campaign to shut down the T4 website
SYDNEY - 20 June 2007 - Telstra has demonstrated the truth about its claims that it wants a public debate about the future of telecommunications in Australia by trying to shut down the www.Tellthetruthtelstra.com.au website.
The Tell the Truth Telstra (T4) group today revealed that Telstra had quietly challenged the T4 group’s right to hold the domain name – a challenge dismissed by the Australian Domain Names Administrator (AUDA).
“This is just another example of Telstra attempting to stifle fair and open debate in the telecommunications sector,” said a T4 spokesperson.
“The complaint to the domain names regulator over a legal technicality was clearly aimed at silencing Telstra’s competitors by shutting down the T4 website. It’s obvious that when Telstra says “debate” it means “we will lecture you and you will do what we want”.
“The T4 group was formed to deliver the facts about broadband, regulation and competition in Australia. It seems that for Telstra the truth hurts.”
